The RECCO® system makes it possible to find people who have gone missing – during sports activities in both summer and winter.
The passive Recco transponder is an integral part in some of our packs as well as in our winter sportswear. The lightweight transponder, weighing in at just 4 grams, does not need servicing and has an unlimited lifespan. Here you can find all data.
Label for water-repellent coating without PFC. One of our top aims is to eliminate PFCs in our collection.
PFCs (per- and poly-fluoride chemicals) are substances used on the surfaces of items to give them water-repellent or fat-repellent properties, which is the reason they are used in waterproof trousers and jackets.
As it is still not clear which PFCs are "good" (i.e. degradable) and which ones are not, we took the decision to eliminate them all from our entire collection. We are now very close to attaining our goal: all our clothing and equipment – bar a few of our sleeping bags – are now completely PFC-free. And the number of PFC-free shoes in our collection is on the rise.
You can read more about this on our PFC Info page.
The bluesign® PRODUCT logo stands for safe textiles, environmentally friendly production and responsible use of resources.
The bluesign® system excludes substances that are harmful to the environment and to health from the very beginning of the manufacturing process. All steps in the process are comprehensively monitored by independent bodies. This ensures environmentally friendly and safe production, as well as the highest standards concerning use of resources, consumer protection, water and air emissions as well as workplace safety.
A bluesign® PRODUCT comprises at least 90% bluesign® certified textiles and 30% bluesign®-certified accessories, i.e. minor components such as zips, buttons, etc.
You will find more information about the bluesign® system and bluesign® PRODUCT here.
A large number of our products are already made of sustainable materials from recycled resources, and we are continually working towards increasing the percentage.
We use recycled PET bottles in many of our materials, such as fleece, synthetic fibre filling and the outer hardshell and softshell fabrics. The membrane used in our Texapore Ecosphere is made from production remnants, meaning there is no waste. And SEAQUAL™ is a synthetic fibre made from plastic debris fished out of the oceans.
Performance meets sustainability – MICROGUARD ECOSPHERE is a quick-drying synthetic fibre filling made of 100% recycled polyester and is characterised by a high degree of heat retention.
The secret behind MICROGUARD lies in its two thread composition: MICRO is a microfibre with a high degree of insulation. GUARD is a stabilising fibre layer which provides durability and loft.
Together, they provide a quick-drying synthetic fibre filling, which, thanks to its good heat/weight ratio and excellent insulating properties, is particularly effective for sleeping bags and padded winter clothing.
The materials in this group are classic “hardshell” materials, meaning they’re always waterproof, windproof and breathable.
These materials consist of a shell material with a water-repellent coating and a waterproof PU membrane or PU coating on the inside. Depending on the construction (2, 2.5 or 3-layer materials), the material used inside is complemented with a smooth inner material or an inserted lining.
All Texapore materials are waterproof, windproof and breathable.
The Texapore and Texapore O2+ technologies are also found in another form in our footwear.
Classic hardshell material
O2+: Materials with O2+ boast an especially high level of breathability of more than 15,000 g/m2/24 h*
Infinity: Infinity materials are extremely breathable with more than 35,000 g/m2/24 h*
Hyproof: Hyproof denotes especially waterproof materials with a hydrostatic head rating of 30,000 mm** or higher
High Quality Down
Down is still the epitome of the warmth/weight ratio. No other material is as ** warm**, yet so ** lightweight** and packs away small.
The degree of heat retention from mixed down depends on the percentage of down used (percentage of down/smallest feathers) and fill power (CUIN, "cubic inch per ounce" ). The greater the percentage of down to small feathers, the warmer the product. The degree of warmth also increases with higher loft.
We use the ratios 80/20 with 550 CUIN and 90/10 with 700-800 CUIN.
JACK WOLFSKIN only uses geese and duck down from an RDS-certified (Responsible Down Standard) manufacturer. Regular and independent inspections guarantee that the down has been obtained from responsible sources (not live-plucked nor from forced-fed animals). Down is a by-product of the meat industry.
Our 3in1 system combines two jackets, e.g. an all-weather and fleece jacket which can be combined using a zip system.
The front zip on the inner jacket is attached to the second zip on the outer jacket; fastening loops on the sleeves and at the neck prevent it from slipping.
Both jackets need to have a system zip of the same length. They are generally "SHORT" and "REGULAR". Other lengths include the EXTRA LONG System Zip for a full coat length and the KIDS System Zip for children and teenagers.
3in1 Short is the short length system zip.
